Every year, I’m surprised by the back-to-school season. It feels like just yesterday that we had an entire summer ahead of us with dreams of lazy days, enjoying summer activities and ice cream. Now it seems as though every morning is a rush to get out the door on time before school starts again for me (and my boys). If there’s one thing I’ve learned after raising three children, it’s that sticking to simple organized daily routines saves money, stress…

#1 CREATE A DROP ZONE

Every day, your kids should know exactly where to hang their backpacks–whether they have a hook for it or not. If you can’t find the perfect place in our house, then create one with hooks or a ladder! Your kids nor you will have to scramble around looking for their stuff every morning when they get home from school; just put them on and go about your business. Every day, my boys know exactly where to hang their backpacks–whether they have a hook for it or not. No more scrambling around looking for shoes every morning when you get home from school; just put them on and go about your activities.

#2 USE FREEZABLE LUNCH BAGS

In a time where everyday life is getting more and more hectic, it’s important to take the option that simplifies your routine. One way you can do this? Freezable lunchboxes! These insulated containers have ice packs built in so all you need to do is freeze them on the night before. Your family will thank you!

#3 CREATE A COMMAND CENTER

Make use of a small unused wall in your home with this central chalkboard command center for the whole family. The calendar makes it easy to add different color post-its per family member making it easy to identify and find their own schedule regarding school-related stuff, mark appointments, sports games, lists and chore charts.

#4 SET UP A HOMEWORK STATION

If you want to make your kids’ homework experience as easy and enjoyable as possible, the best thing you can do is set up a dedicated space for them. That way they have everything that’s needed in one spot – like sharpened pencils or rulers- so there will be no need to hunt around when it comes time for school work! One clever idea I’ve seen many parents use is some sort of rolling cart that stores their supplies neatly inside.

You can also incorporate this into any existing décor with something small enough not to take away from other pieces.

  • pens
  • pencils
  • pencil sharpener
  • colored pencils
  • paper and notebooks
  • stapler, ruler, tape, glue
  • extra erasers
  • diffuser oils Peppermint (it helps improve mental function and reduce stress) and Citrus Fresh (it enhances positive feelings)
